It’s been another busy year for EcoAdventures! We thank our adventurers for a great year as we continued to navigate the tourism landscape in ever-changing times. After a short interruption, we were able to offer plenty of programming starting in the late spring, including moonlit hikes, scrambles up the “Lion’s Spine”, outdoor escape rooms, and caving adventures. Personalized private group and family tours continued to be a popular option this year. Please let us know and we'll set one up.
Your participation continues to support the conservation projects of the Bruce Peninsula Biosphere Association. The past year saw the BPBA take on projects like monitoring local populations of the endangered Red-headed Woodpecker, continuing to protect more watercourses from pollutants, removing over 1000 square metres of invasive phragmites, working on a Community Climate Action Plan and creating an on-line Climate Action Hub, focused on information and technologies to reduce our carbon footprint.
Gravel Gran Fondo 2021
The hugely popular Gravel Gran Fondo ran for a second time on October 3rd. Over 400 cyclists from across the province and beyond started off from Lion’s Head Beach on a cool and misty morning, and travelled one of four routes, running 30km to 115km. This volunteer-led event was met with overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants. Proceeds from the event went to the Bruce Peninsula Biosphere Association.

Cyprus Lake Forest Escape
After testing runs late last year, we were able to launch our Forest Escape in spring 2021 at the National Park. This outdoor escape room experience for groups of four to six had participants solving puzzles, breaking codes, and learning about our local flora and fauna as they raced against the clock to stop a dastardly plot. The year’s best time was set on August 16th at an impressive 58 minutes and 30 seconds. Not even a family of black bears in the area could keep us from the Forest Escape for long – after a brief break in late August while the bears were relocated, we resumed in September for a last couple of groups before the cold set in.
A few groups of intrepid adventurers braved the darkness this fall for night hikes under full moons, new moons, and even risked encountering forest ghosts on the Halloween weekend! Our night hikes are a great way for new and seasoned hikers to challenge themselves with a new kind of hiking experience – exploring the darkened trails by headlamp and hearing the sounds of the forest as night falls. Spaces remain for our last night hike of the year, on the Winter Solstice. Join us as the sun sets on autumn and we journey into the longest night of the year.
2022 Winter Programming
As the year draws to a close, we are dusting off our snowshoes, poles, and crampons in preparation for another winter season. We will start the winter with a sunset hike on the Winter Solstice – and there are still a few spots left! We continue to prioritize the health and safety of all of our guests by adhering to public health recommendations, including social distancing, equipment sanitization, and participant and guide screening. Our ever-popular Snowshow the Grotto adventure is already filling up fast. We look forward to getting back to the frozen lakes, winding snowy trails, and ice-covered cliffside cedars of the Grotto in winter.
On behalf of the Biosphere Association, thank you for supporting conservation with your purchase of an EcoAdventure. KEEP ADVENTURING!
